Hummingbirds of Quinta Mazatlan

Buff-bellied Hummingbird

Spanish Name: Colibri Yucateco | Scientific Name: Amazilia yucatanensis

The Buff-bellied Hummingbird is a small, green and rusty brown bird. If the light catches its throat, you can see a wonderfully shiny bluish green.

Because of its small size and quick flight, the distinct tick-ticking and other buzzy calls are important to recognize.

It loves the nectar of the Turk’s Cap flower and Tropical Sage, but drink from hummingbird feeders.

Nest can be found in a variety of trees and shrubs which include Mexican Olive and Sugar Hackberry. It makes a tiny nest of small fibers and lichen.
