Welcome to the Urban Sanctuary in South Texas!

Quinta Mazatlan is cherished locally and recognized internationally as a sanctuary connecting people to the history, beauty and wonder of our natural world.  We work with partners to advance environmental education, eco-tourism and the environment for the health of all.

We are located in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) of south Texas in the United States.  The LRGV is not really a valley but a delta, or a fertile plain, that slopes away from the Rio Grande.  The combination of climate, vegetation, and wildlife is unlike any other region in the United States.

With more than 95% of the Tamaulipan Brushlands converted to agriculture and urban use, our work is to “bring nature home"! The future of the environment depends on building stronger connections to nature.  Get out and enjoy nature at Quinta Mazatlan!

Quinta Mazatlan offers gardens around the historic home, natural areas, walking trails, exhibits, science labs and classrooms for learning and exploring.

The Center for Urban Ecology in partnership with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) focuses on environmental issues and solutions to help create a healthier environment for people and wildlife.

The urban sanctuary offers locals and tourists the opportunity to see and enjoy beautiful birds and other wildlife that call the Valley home or are just passing through.
