Birding

The Rio Grande Valley of Texas is regarded as one of the best birdwatching regions in the United States due to its bird diversity and many birdwatching locations. Over 515 species have been documented in the four-county area, which would put us in the top 10 of the entire states! While the sheer diversity of birds is great, the region is especially known for its South Texas specialty birds and the tropical rarities that wander from farther south.

Among the favorites of visiting birders are Green Jay, Great Kiskadee, Altamira Oriole, Plain Chachalaca, and Aplomado Falcon, among others. Famous rarities include the mega-rare Bat Falcon, Amazon Kingfisher, Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, and the relatively more frequent rarities like Blue Bunting, Crimson-collared Grosbeak, and Golden-crowned Warbler. Visit us in McAllen, TX and explore the natural beauty of the Rio Grande Valley.
