Our weekly outdoor learning experiences are designed for youth to explore, engage, learn and play! Find a program which may interest your child! Please check the Calendar of Events for dates and times.

March 18th - Native Flowers and Pollinators
Learn what native flowers pollinators love best with a QM Naturalist!
- • Take a guided walk through the Tamaulipan Thorn Forest Trail
- • Discover the relationship between native plant and pollinators.
- • Engage in wildflower water coloring
March 19th - Bug Hunt
Explore and identify the critters hiding underneath leaves and logs.
- • Take the Bug Hunt Trail!
- • Learn about the importance of different bug species within an ecosystem.
- • Discover what bugs enjoy eating and why.
- • Engage in an abstract art activity and create marbleized insects!
March 20th - Common Native Birds
Join a Quinta Mazatlán Naturalist for a Family Birding tour!
- • Learn how to identify native birds and explore how they are ecosystem engineers.
- • Explore bird habitat and behavior with binoculars.
March 21st - South Texas Trees
Welcome Spring with a QM Naturalist and explore the fruiting and blooming trees of South Texas.
- • Learn tips on how to identify and differentiate tree species.
- • Discover the importance of friendship in tree communities.
- • Document parts of a tree: Leaf pressing and bark rubbing.
- • Listen to the trees sing!
La Afinidad - Youth Art & Forest Therapy Camp
- • Date: March 18 - 20
- • Time: 8:00 am – 12:00pm
- • Age: 9 - 13
- • Fee: $20 per attendee (Registration Required- Limited spots available) - quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com
- • Description: Participating youth will cultivate deep connection to nature, themselves and others through relational learning opportunities including: Exploring the Japanese practice of Shinrin- Yoku, multi-media art and stewardship.
A Day* at La Afinidad:
- • 8:00 am – Arrival and Morning Invitations
- • 8:30 am – 9:30 am – Grounding Circle and Intentional walk in the forest
- • 9:30am – 10:00am – Foraging
- • 10:00am – 10:30am – Land Snack Break
- • 10:30am-11:30am – Kinship and Creativity (Focused Youth Art Projects)
- • 11:30am – 12:00pm – Final Sharing Circle
- • 12:00pm- Pick Up
• Daily activities will vary but will follow this foundational routine.
