Grow More Forests

Historically, native Thornforests covered the Rio Grande Valley.  Today, less than 10% of the Thornforests remain.  Quinta Mazatlan works to protect and restore the unique habitat by growing “Tiny Forests” in City Parks and Schoolyards.

The gift store supports Quinta’s mission, and the unique designs serve as a reminder to cherish, protect and enhance our lands.

Gateway to Birding

McAllen, Texas is the geographic center of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, one of the most productive birdwatching regions in the United States and Canada.  Over 500 species of birds have been seen in the LRGV-an area just 120 miles wide and 60 miles deep.  Quinta Mazatlan serves as a gateway to birdwatching in the LRGV, located just minutes from the McAllen International Airport.

The gift store supports Quinta’s mission and the unique items serve as a reminder to cherish, protect and enhance our lands.

The Magnificent Green Jay

Once you see a Green Jay, you will marvel at the rich tropical coloring of this bird.  It is the avian symbol of the City of McAllen.  The Green Jays love the Thornforest at Quinta Mazatlan.  You may hear them first, with the raucous cheg, che-che-che-che as they discover someone nearing their home.  But the birds are actually rather shy and elusive.

Hope you have a chance to see a Green Jay at Quinta Mazatlan and then purchase a Green Jay themed gift for memory sake.
