City Nature Challenge

The Center for Urban Ecology has been the local co-organizer for the City Nature Challenge since 2019. As a result of the City Nature Challenge, more than 55,000 observations of local plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms have been added to the iNaturalist community science platform, with the resulting data contributing to science, conservation, and environmental education.

Run by the Community Scienceteams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM), the CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal.
